For the 50th anniversary of the 1967 unrest, the Detroit Historical Society recorded dozens of audio interviews with people who lived through it, and the vivid memories they share make that summer come back to life. The motor city had been simmering for a long time, and people seemed to know something was coming. The Detroit riots would end up as the deadliest of dozens of urban uprisings across the U.S. that summer.
