She started as a renegade hippie, with a caravan of like-minded spiritual seekers, but Ina May Gaskin wound up changing the conversation about birth in America. While modern medicine made tremendous progress in some areas of natal process, along the way key aspects of what makes birth easier and healthier for women and babies were obliterated. Gaskin has made it her life’s work to bring back the 1000-year-old art of women helping women give birth.
