Shot by Nancy Kalow with an 8mm camcorder from 1986 to 1988, the documentary Sadobabies take a fascinating look at the folk culture of homeless teens in San Francisco. The film captures the daily lives of a closely knit group who squatted in the abandoned Polytechnic High School. “Sadobabies” were dolls crafted by the teens on which they mirrored the physical, sexual and mental abuse they experienced in their families.
