Twenty years ago today, Tupac Shakur was murdered after attending a boxing match in Las Vegas. The 25-year-old hip hop star’s tragic death was mourned by his legions of fans—and would be for decades to come. Today you can find tribute murals and graffiti honoring the ascendant rapper in nearly every major city on earth. These range from large-scale works painted by well-known street artists to informal scrawls and tags— humble markings which nonetheless speak volumes about Pac’s impact on generations of fans. The legacy and mythology of Tupac continues to reverberate and spread — like hip hop itself — to every corner of the globe.
