“Within the overall framework of planning, time planning is oriented toward strategic long-term goals, which can be divided into operational subobjectives. Setting time periods for your personal and profession goals will provide you with a feeling for and an overview of the most favorable sequence and time allocation.” (Seiwert, 1991)

The author, Lothar J. Seiwert says that its important to plan your time accordingly. This is important because you can get your work done in a timely matter, while still being able to be stress free. Seiwart believes that in order to use your time management skills effectively, you need to follow The Five-Step Method. The steps to the method are:

  1. Arrange your tasks
  2. Assess the length of your tasks
  3. Reserve buffers
  4. Decide priorities, cuts, and delegations
  5. Review: transfer of unfinished tasks

There are a lot of benefits to following these 5 steps because they will ultimately help you get your work done efficiently. Using these 5 steps will help you stay organized when it comes to what you need to do, what needs to be done first, how long it will take you to do these tasks, and what you still have left. In other words, planning what you need to do ahead of time is the smartest thing you can do for yourself while practicing the skill of time management. Being unorganized and not knowing what needs to be done first can add a lot of stress, but following these 5 steps will help relieve some of that stress, and allow you to get your work done on time. I think its a very good idea to use these 5 steps, and I even follow these steps myself. Since following these 5 steps, I have become a more efficient worker, and have improved on my time management skills.
