Hey there!

I’m Helen, how nice to meet you — I was asked to show you a thing or two about long-range weapons, so that’s what we’ll do today! You can look at my file here if you like.

I believe that killing is a sin, but sometimes necessary — especially in our kind of work. That’s why I use what I make as aTime Raider to do good that I couldn’t otherwise!

But it’s still important to me to avoid unnecessary death… that’s why I became a sniper. We kill with precision, one target, one bullet. No accidental casualties.

So, let me show you some of the tools you’ll want to use!

Springfield M1903: Old, but reliable

From the trenches to the Korean War

No matter how modern the rifle, if it’s intended as a sniping rifle, even the most modern ones are often still in bolt-action. And the Springfield is a great example of why… this kind of rifle is less complicated, and thus more reliable.

Sometimes, simple is best. Some sharpshooters in history actually even chose not to use their gun with a scope — an example of this is the legendary sniper Simo Häyhä from the Winter War in 1939–1940. Often called “White Death”, he hid in the snow, snow in his mouth to hide his breath, and no scope on his rifle so the reflection of the sun in the scope would not give away his position.

The Springfield M1903 is already a bit older by the time of your first mission, WWII — but it was still used widely, and there’s a good reason for that. It just works!

Even better with a scope!

Garand M1: Almost automatic

The gun that won World War 2

There’s one problem with bolt-action rifles. They’re slow to fire.

So often, a semi-automatic weapon might be the better choice, and what more iconic example of that than the Garand M1! Just looking at it, you might not be able to tell. But just listen… it’s the gun with the PING when the clip is ejected.

There are a lot of stories of allied troops in WWII reaching almost the same firing rate as automatic weapons with their M1s, but that does not mean you should start spraying bullets everywhere. Remember, you’re a sniper!

The Doodlebug, the loudest bug in history

Try to dodge this!

I think John mentioned in the last briefing that I’d have a surprise for you.

Well, I hope I won’t disappoint you! I brought something…

Sometimes on your missions as Time Raider, you’ll need a little something… more. More explosives than you can carry, more killing power than any gun.

That’s why we have special tools like the Doodlebug, also known as the V1 rocket — because sometimes, you just need more than any gun can give you.

Extremely long-range, and with a worrying amount of explosives, the Doodlebug can come in handy if you’re faced with a challenge!

Alright, that’s it from me. May God be on your side, and may you be protected.

Have faith, stay low and stay focused, breathe slowly, and you’ll hit your targets!

Next up, you’ll be briefed on some of the vehicles and support that you can count on, and then to complete your training, we will give you an introduction to our special tools — things like the Doodlebug, Mech Suits, ancient monsters…
