ESPN Sports Reporter Tries, Fails to Predict Election

There’s a blog called fivethirtyeight.com hosted by ESPN, which is home to a bunch of sports reporters who crunch numbers about NCAA basketball games and the like. Anyway, they’re trying their hand at predicting elections, and are having a rough time of it this year. Very rough. For instance: they predicted that the estranged wife of some dude who was president twenty years ago had a 99% or greater chance to win the Democrats’ Michigan Primary yesterday.

Um. Yeah. Try again.

They had one of the junior writers throw up a bunch of wild-assed guesses and unfounded speculation to explain away this little, um, discrepancy. It’s a bit of a rambling bit going everywhere from the young vote carried the day, or maybe the Black vote failed to carry the day, or maybe everyone just hates Trump so much that they crossed party lines to totally not vote for him (what the — ?), or maybe it was just bad luck or something.

I hope those guys are better at sports than politics. They’re probably spending most of their time on March Madness anyway. They had a pretty good bit on Gonzaga recently.
