Take Charge of Your Career with the “Own Your Career” Campaign
We know that everyone wants to have a great work life and a comfortable salary. But navigating the job market can be intimidating. So CareerInitiative is here with a new campaign called “Own Your Career” aimed at helping students and professionals find their dream job and build successful careers.
So what ‘Own Your Career’ really is?
If you are a student/recent graduate looking for a job or a working professional looking for a career change, this is for you. Own Your Career is an initiative from TinkerHub that publishes a series of exciting online content and conducts workshops to guide you through every step of the job search process and understanding the job market.
How is OYC helping students and professionals?
Graduating from college is a significant milestone in a student's life, and finding a job after graduation won’t be an easy task. Even though most college offers campus placements, every student won’t be able to get a job through campus placements or the salary offered in placements may not be that good if you are from a low-tier college.
So it's crucial for students to know how to get a job on their own after graduation. That's where OYC plays a major role. Now let's look at some of the reasons why students are not getting offers off-campus.
- Lack of information: Students are unaware of much information like job opportunities, where to find jobs, what they require to do to increase their chances of getting the job etc.
- Lack of experience: Students need some skills/experience in the domain they are applying for even if they are fresher.
- Lack of Networking: Networking is a crucial aspect of the job search process, if you have a great network it’s far less difficult to find a job.
- Lack of guidance: Not every student knows what they need to do to get a job like how to find a job, write a resume, and interview preparation, which all require proper guidance. Many don’t know these because of the lack of proper guidance.
Next, It's also important for professionals to know about job search because job opportunities and the job market are constantly changing. Even if you are currently employed and happy with your job, it's a good idea to keep an eye on what other opportunities are available in your field. Here are some reasons why:
- Career Growth: Knowing how to search and where to find opportunities can help you identify positions that align with your career goals and aspirations. By keeping an eye on the job market, you can be proactive in finding new opportunities to grow your career and develop your skills.
- Salary negotiations: Understanding the job market can also help you negotiate your salary and benefits package. If you know what other companies are offering for similar positions, you can use that information to negotiate a higher salary or better benefits at your current job.
- Job security: No job is completely secure, and it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan in case you lose your current job. By knowing how to conduct a job search and keeping your resume and skills up to date, you can be prepared to find a new job quickly if necessary.
- Passion: Aligning your passion with your profession can lead to a more fulfilling career. When you are passionate about your work, you are more likely to be motivated, engaged, and committed to achieving your goals. Although it's important to remember that not everyone’s passion can or should be their profession.
