0G Labs is a leading Web3 modular infrastructure company focused on developing modular AI blockchain. The Testnet Newton v2 testnet is now online, providing an ultra-high data throughput of 50GB per second, far exceeding the current Ethereum expansion scheme of 1.5MB per second. In March of this year, 0G Labs completed a $35 million pre-seed round led by Hack VC.

Michael first pointed out that 0G Labs has three core products. The first is a fully decentralized storage network that supports fast data retrieval and processing, compatible with all Web2 data types, and costs 80% less than AWS. The second core product is the data availability system, which is 50,000 times faster than Celestia and 100 times cheaper, ensuring efficient data availability and integrity. The third is a decentralized service framework that can efficiently handle various requests, including inference and storage requests, ensuring comprehensive and flexible services.

Innovative Blockchain Architecture and Performance

0G Labs’ Technological Breakthroughs

Traditional blockchain architecture adopts a single structure that integrates the execution layer, consensus layer, data availability system, and final settlement process into one system. However, the modular AI chain of 0G Labs takes a completely new approach. Michael compared this architecture to Lego bricks, separating different functional modules to achieve high system optimization. This approach not only enables horizontal scaling but also significantly increases data throughput. For example, compared to Ethereum’s data throughput of 80KB per second, each node of 0G Labs can now achieve 10 to 20MB per second, and overall data throughput increases with each additional node.

Performance and Application Scenarios’ Leap

Michael pointed out that systems like danksharding or Celestial work by sending a block to all verification nodes and then performing data availability sampling at that point. Each verification node repeats the same process, which lacks horizontal scalability, and the speed of the entire network is determined by the slowest node. Therefore, Ethereum’s danksharding can achieve a maximum data throughput of 10MB per second.

However, this data throughput is insufficient for some application scenarios, such as AI applications, on-chain games, high-frequency decentralized finance (DeFi), and high-frequency computing. Michael emphasized that with 0G Labs’ modular AI chain, a maximum throughput of 50GB per second can be achieved for each consensus layer, bringing a new future where any application can be fully built on-chain without the substantial trade-offs between decentralized and centralized systems. For users and developers, this means developing and running applications on-chain will be more efficient and economical. Developers can build more complex and efficient decentralized applications, and users will enjoy faster and cheaper services.

Leading in High-Performance Data Storage and Processing

Michael mentioned that in terms of data availability, 0G Labs receives 32MB of unstructured data blocks, breaks them into 300 erasure code data blocks, and stores them on the network. When each data block is stored, a KCG commitment is sent to the consensus layer to prove the correctness of the encoding. At the same time, a quorum is formed between the consensus layer and storage nodes to determine data availability. Once data availability is confirmed, a ZK proof can be written on the underlying L1 to ensure its full verifiability. The benefit of this approach is that users only need to trust the security level of the underlying L1 from the request source. This design not only ensures security but also maximizes speed and throughput, achieving horizontal scalability.

High-Performance DApp Support and Future Application Assurance

0G Labs’ system can not only scale nodes horizontally but also scale the consensus layer horizontally. Michael emphasized that their research found that bottlenecks often appear in the transaction throughput of the consensus layer. Therefore, this design can achieve unlimited scalability. Just like in Web2, when using AWS servers, you can go online with a new server at the push of a button, and 0G Labs’ system can achieve the same effect. In addition, 0G Labs provides powerful programming capabilities. Developers can decide the storage time, storage location, data type, and required security guarantees for the data themselves.

Application Prospects of 0G Labs’ Architecture

There is currently a great demand in the market to ensure the verifiability and credibility of AI. In centralized systems, such as using OpenAI, users cannot confirm the authenticity of the model. In blockchain systems, AI alignment nodes can verify the results to ensure credibility and transparency.

Besides AI, Michael also sees great potential in on-chain games. On-chain games can not only bring opportunities for financialization and assetization but also create new economic models and gaming experiences. Although the demand for high-frequency DeFi is relatively low, on-chain games and AI both show great development prospects.

Integration and Cooperation with Existing Technologies

0G Labs attaches great importance to integration and cooperation with existing technologies such as Ethereum, Celestia, and EigenDA. 0G Labs has a fully decentralized storage system and a decentralized service framework to be launched soon, enabling them to achieve more functions. For example, 0G Labs can become Ethereum’s permanent data availability solution, while other technologies usually only provide data storage guarantees for two to four weeks.

On the second-layer protocol, 0G Labs can provide a complete data availability solution, including state snapshots and disaster recovery. Similar operations can also be achieved on the application chain and the third-layer protocol. 0G Labs’ unique position lies in its decentralized storage and service framework, supporting application scenarios that require long-term data storage and high-reliability services, thereby improving the performance and reliability of the blockchain ecosystem.

Future Technological Breakthroughs and New Project Plans

Michael introduced 0G Labs’ future plans and technological breakthroughs.

Firstly, the decentralized storage network solves the problem of slow data retrieval and incompatibility with EVM in existing storage solutions, supporting applications with high-frequency data exchange.

Secondly, 0G Labs will create an infinitely scalable programmable data availability layer and achieve breakthroughs in the service framework to provide fast and secure data processing services. 0G Labs’ system can find the best path for different types of requests.

In the future, 0G Labs will provide verifiable inference services and collaborate with partners such as GPU provider io.net. These technological advancements will provide more efficient and secure solutions for developers and users, further promoting the widespread application and development of Web3 technology.

Community Building and Future Development

0G Labs has also made achievements in community building. Since February this year, the community has grown from zero to nearly 200,000 followers, thanks to a series of exciting interactive activities. For example, the 0G mascot design competition attracted many community members’ creative participation, ultimately selecting Space Panda as the mascot, now featured in various community creations across the internet.

To attract retail community members and developer community members, 0G Labs hosted poker tournaments and 0G knowledge quizzes to help people better understand 0G. Additionally, 0G Labs opened ambassador applications, receiving about 900 applications for only 20 spots, showing high interest and enthusiasm from community members. In the future, 0G Labs will work closely with ambassadors to translate documents, host online and offline events, further enhancing community cohesion and engagement.

At the same time, 0G Labs highly values the health of community members and plans to launch more enriching community interaction activities. Moreover, 0G Labs plans to launch a country-specific moderator management program, selecting managers from active Discord members to help manage communities in different countries.

In terms of academics and incubators, 0G Labs also has grand plans. Michael mentioned that 0G recently launched its first hackathon in preparation for the mainnet launch in July and plans to conduct multiple incubation programs annually to help builders thrive in the ecosystem through ecosystem funding and support.

At the end of the event, Michael summarized that 0G Labs’ vision is to create a community-owned AI public good, aiming for an abundant future instead of a dystopian future where AI is abused and weaponized.
