Arthurs Theme, should have a 25 second rule.

(King) Arthur’s Theme, that has created a buzz in Pune for over 20 years, has finally arrived in Candolim, on the ground floor of Acacia Hotel. I happen to have seen it on my way out of Izgara, it looked so cute, all white and dreamy — I wondered why it was so empty? After having a word with the staff there I realised it had opened up barely a month ago — If you’re in Goa and you haven’t visited this Food Heaven, you’re missing out on so much. Arthurs Theme is probably the most underrated restaurant I have been to.

I am not exaggerating when I say this, but some of the food that I had at Arthur’s Theme was the best food I have ever tasted in my life. I absolutely had Food orgasms at this restaurant.

The Bartender made me some beautiful Baileys, Kaluha Mixs that kept me happy through the night. When it came to Mocktails, we were in the mood for some experimenting, so we tried out an interesting Spicy Mango Mocktail. As I tasted it, I liked it so much I asked them to get me one as a Cocktail as well, but by the time I got to drinking it, it was the end of my meal and just a suggestion, if you go for the Spicy Mango Cocktail, do it at the start of your night, not the end of it. You don’t want to have lots of food in your stomach already and then top it up with spice. That doesn’t work too well.

You’re Welcome!

Appetisers: If it were up to me, I would’ve *only* had Appetisers at this restaurant. What a vast variety of meat and seafood! It was unbelieveable. My mouth was watering by just looking at the menu. I was taken aback by how affordable it was as well. All this amazing food variety, at such affordable rates — if that’s not Food Heaven, what is? Usually as a Seafood lover, I hate that most restaurants barely have 2–3 options of Seafood on their Menu. But Arthurs Theme? Their Menu was filled with the Ocean! I felt like a Kid in a Toy Store, I just couldn’t pick… and so, I had 4 Appetisers *Guilty Smile*.

Here’s a list of the Appetisers we ordered. I am literally getting cravings as I type this review.

Octa — Smoked Salmon layerd with Cream Cheese & Chives, drizzled with sweet Mustard Sauce. So.. I’m usually well mannered, but I didn’t even share the Salmon — I just refused to. That’s how much I fell in love with it. It was just… so good.

Alexia — Marinated Prawns wrapped Chicken Grilled to perfection and tossed in a spicy sauce. Perfection? Yes. Oh god yes. You know how they say sometimes, words do not do justice to what you’re feeling inside? That’s exactly how I felt about this dish. We ordered it once, and then we ordered another round because once just wasn’t enough!

Luda — Cilantro infused fillets of Fish sauted with Onions, bell peppers and topped with herbs. Honestly, this is now Seafood Heaven. Look at the variety! I haven’t been this excited to do a Food Review of a place in as long as I can remember.

Gerard — Beer Batter Golden Fried Prawns, served with spicy sauce. If you think you’ve tasted the softest prawns in the world that simply melt in your mouth — think again. Because you really haven’t, unless you’ve been to Arthur’s Theme.

Now once the Appetisers were over, I was dying for yet another round of the exact same things I had just tasted. Confessions: I am sometimes exactly the kind of eaters you may despise. I find a dish that I love, and then I eat it every day, every meal, for the rest of the year. Yes, those safe food habits do exist in me when I find those once in a bluemoon Foodgasm Dishes. On this Appetiser Menu — almost everything was for keeps. Which is why if you’re a comfort zone eater like me — this restaurant will become your second home.

Main Menu: Surprise surprise, I went in for a Seafood Platter Erik, while my friend ordered himself the Chicken dish, Heidi.

Erik: Grilled Skewers of Baby Octopus, Prawns and Fish, served on mashed potatoes, topped with our home made barbecue sauce. A very interesting combination that had me intriuged through the entire meal. I was constantly biting off something or the other and wondering what I love more, only to realise that I love it all. Trust me — I’m not a very generous food critic — but what are you suppose to do when the food is so bloody amazing? Usually I end up drinking so many great Cocktails that food ends up tasting great anyway — but I was as sober as a dog here, so the food really, really was Orgasmic. The Barbecue Sauce was home made from the scratch and it tasted creamy and beautiful (yes, once you’ve eaten here you realise that beautiful is indeed a taste), as for the mashed potetoes — I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of that. They weren’t bad, but they were cooked differently. The Mash was slightly hard and chewy. I was almost relieved that I’d tasted something I wasn’t entirely gaga over because my love for the food at Arthur’s was starting to scare me a little.

Heidi: Flame grilled breast of Chicken marinated in balsamic vinegar and pink pepper corns, served with sauce Espagnole, and accompanied with French Fries. The chicken pieces were soft and the balsamic vinegar was the cherry on top of the cake. I’m not a huge fan of chicken so I would any day order Seafood over it, but having said that — if you’re a chicken lover, this dish is worth a shot. I would probably give it a 6.5/10.

It was now time for what’s usually everybody’s favourite part of a meal, the Desserts. Except for me, I think I just lack a sweet tooth. It sure as hell can’t be genetic because the rest of my family loves sweets! So we flipped the menu over to the 9 beautifully described desserts. That’s when I laid my eyes upon the Lemon Souffle, garnished with lemon zest. I love citrus. So undoubtedly that had to be ordered. We did balance it out with the Blue Berry Cheese Cake, which was without a doubt a good pick for a dessert as there was just the right amount of vanilla, cream and blue berries to make it a tasty finish, because you know, normal people like sweet desserts. But I was personally a sucker for the Lemon Souffle. So if you’re like me, you’d love to end the night with a citrusy taste in your mouth.

Over all the presentation was fabulous. The staff was extremely welcoming. They were friendly, interactive and an extremely happy bunch of people. I’ve never seen so many smiles in a restaurant. I genuinely think that the 5 second rule for eating fallen food should be officially turned to the 25 second rule when you’re here. You do not want to miss a single bite of their dishes.

Just a warning for love birds though; This food literally is orgasmic, so if you’re on a honeymoon period and happen to eat here — don’t be surprised if your partner doesn’t seem very interested in a lot of romance post this dinner — There are only so many orgasms you can have in one night! But then again…

What you’ll love & Cannot Miss: If I could go back to Arthur’s Theme, I would probably do an entire meal made of Appetisers itself because that was the highlight of the entire night. As I write this review I found myself googling to see if there’s an Arthur’s Theme in Mumbai because clearly, cravings tend to kick in. In fact, if any of you visit the place & are from Mumbai — please take away Octa and Alexia for me! :)

Facebook Page: Arthurs Theme, Goa.

Were an epitaph to be my story I’d have a short one ready for my own. I would have written of me on my stone: I had a lover’s quarrel with the world. — RF
