Expectations:

I expected terrible dialogue and bad acting. Horror comedy is really difficult to execute.

Reality:

Fun dialogue made this movie interesting. Acting wasn’t atrocious but it was good enough for the cult-themed story. Judah Lewis, who plays Cole, seemed too old/cool to play the part of nerd-saves-the-day. They tried putting black rimmed glasses on him, but the nerdy aesthetic felt forced. I will say, he was a great actor. I believed him when he cried, when he was freaking out. The other actors, like King Bach, were pretty funny. I followed Bach in his Vine days so I was weary about what he would be like on “the big screen” but he did not disappoint. I don’t know why I would be weary, I have always thought his acting was hilarious. Perhaps it’s the other male Viners (like Logan Paul or Curtis Lepore) that are giving bad vibes to the rest of them. A fine example of why we should give people chances and not let someone’s group make us dismiss someone. Enough about that, though, my favorite scenes were the funnier ones. Anything Hana Mae Lee did was perfection — she was so funny and her character was awesome. Bella Thorne’s acting was the worst of them all, but she also had the most annoying character, so who knows. Robbie Amell (Firestorm, ‘The Flash’) had really funny lines and a hilariously heart-warming scene with the main character, Cole.

If you’re looking for a realistic, scary horror movie — this is not for you. If you’re looking for a little bit of gore, a little bit of laughs, and a splash of cult/satanism — this is worth a watch.
