About Mindy Tan

Mindy enjoys photographing people in their daily lives, capturing and recording the banal, sometimes with split-seconds of emotional revelation about the lives we lead today.

The Singapore Press Holdings Art Scholar began her career as a newspaper journalist for migrant labour and the blue-collared. She won the Society of Publishers Asia (SOPA) Award for Excellence in Human Rights Reporting in 2007 and left the newsroom a year later, swapping pen for camera, to pursue documentary photography work.
Ambassador to Fujifilm as on of the camera brand’s X-photographers, she is the first female X-Photographer in South-East Asia. Recently, she presented at Fujikina 2017 in Kyoto, Japan becoming the first female on Fujikina’s live stage. She also exhibited a personal gallery at Photokina 2016 in Cologne, Germany.
Mindy has conducted several photography workshops including with Nikon School and the Singapore Sports Council. She has covered an array of major-league sports events such as the World Tennis Association finals and the Beijing Paralympics. Clients for her lifestyle include Uniqlo and Mini Cooper. She also photographs weddings.

Her greatest passion however, is street and documentary photography, Singapore and Asia being her main geographical interest. A North Korea photo series went viral on social media and subsequently exhibited in Franc, at the Festival Pil’ours.

Her photos about Lee Kuan Yew’s passing were selected for show at the National Museum of Singapore. She has co-published the book ‘Silenced Minority’ about her country’s 2015 electoral campaign.
