Sometimes the “secret” to success isn’t all that complicated. We like to trick ourselves into thinking it’s super complicated and requires a lot of books, seminars and hours of study, but in reality the right answer is often the simple answer.

So what’s the secret to staying on track and achieving our goals? I’m going to tell you the most important thing you need to know.

It also happens to be the simplest.

When we struggle to reach a goal or stick to a new habit, we often blame willpower, or worse yet we just doubt ourselves completely.

I’m not good enough…

I don’t have the right skills…

I’m just bad with money…

I’ve never been much of a gym person…

I don’t have the willpower….

All of those thoughts are crap. They’re not true.

We all have those same thoughts of self doubt from time to time. Even the people you read about and look to as examples of success. They have those same doubts, those same thoughts.

So why do some people overcome them and others give in?

Here’s the secret that separates success and failure. Here’s what you need to do when you fall off track or have a setback…. Start Again.

I told you it was going to simple.

Start Again. That’s it. That’s the secret.

You’re going to have good days and bad days. The secret is to look past the bad days and start again.

Soichiro Honda, founder of the Honda Motor Company, would be considered a massive success by any standard. He revolutionized an industry and… failed incredibility often.

I love this quote from him about achieving success:

“Success can only be achieved through repeated failure and introspection. In fact, success represents the 1% of your work that results from the 99% that is called failure.”

That’s right. He had lots of “bad days”, but he knew that good days and bad days come and go. He knew that he needed to constantly start again. That’s the secret to staying on track.

So, have you fallen off track lately? Make today one of the good days. Start again…
