Thanksgiving and the holiday season are a time when we often pause to reflect on the work we’ve accomplished over the last year. We’re grateful for committed partners, grantees, and donors who help us do this impactful work in our community. Among those projects that we’re particularly grateful for is one concept created by the first cohort of our R+D program, T Lab, that is coming to life in Oakland.

Two years after developing the idea of the “Little Scholars” preschool on a bus, Aspire Public Schools — a Tipping Point grantee — put those wheels in motion. Today, the concept is being piloted at Aspire Monarch Academy in Oakland, and Jill Tucker, education reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle was there to capture the joy the children experienced from the mobile classroom. The front-page story highlights the extraordinary commitment of Aspire in continuing to prototype this concept, providing high-quality preschool to 14, four-year-olds who otherwise wouldn’t have access to early education.

Read the full story to learn more about the pilot program and the importance of this type of out-of-the-box thinking to help solve some of our community’s toughest challenges. You can also click here to see a video of the preschool bus in action.
