For everyone his native place carries sweet memories of his younger days which he cherishes and fondles for ever. Our childhood days were spent in Tirupattur, Tamil Nadu, where we were born and brought up. So, it also has sweet memories for us.

It was a small town then. ( It is district headquarters now). We lived in Kumaraswamy koil Street, which was in the heart of the town. It was also known as the Brahmin Street as all the inhabitants there were Brahmins. We lived in a big old sprawling type of house with tiled roof which had only halls and verandahs and no rooms. Our family and our maternal grandfather’s family lived together as a joint family. There were many houses in the street very close to each other. We were all so many together. Children, elders, mamas and mamis.

In this ‘Tirupattur diaries’ we want to share with you some of our childhood experiences, what we saw, felt, thought and understood . As the name indicates , it is just a record of events and has no connected story line.

In this ‘Tirupattur Diaries’ we want to share with you some of our childhood experiences, what we saw, felt, thought and understood . As the name indicates , it is just a record of events and has no connected story line. While it is debatable how interesting these anecdotes would be for the current generation, the idea is to preserve the experiences for posterity. Also, some of the incidents probably happened in other places (not just Tirupattur). It would be a criminal waste of internet addresses to create one blog for every city or town that we have lived in. So, do not be alarmed if you find Nellore or Chennai in the narrative.

Welcome to our blog. We hope this provides a sneak peak into how life was in the 40’s and 50’s (and 60’s and 70’s) of the 20th century.

(I am posting these stories on behalf of my mother and my aunt — Venu Vedam)
