Communities bring people from all parts of life together, virtual or live. So we always say events can’t happen without communities. However, we know it might be challenging to create and cultivate that loyal event community that will keep supporting your events no matter what.

That’s why last Thursday, we spoke about how to build a loyal event community at the first-ever edition of our new virtual event series: Event Hacks with Tix on Twitter Spaces!

During our insightful conversation, our two speakers, Subomi, the Project and Marketing Lead of Femme Africa, and Temitope, the Community Manager of Lagos on a Budget, shared how they built and maintain loyal event communities for their brands.

Please keep reading to glimpse the tips shared by each speaker during our Twitter Space! Do you want more info on these tips? Listen to the entire conversation here.

Subomi Ajibola, Project and Marketing Lead of Femme Africa

Femme Africa focuses on supporting and uplifting young women in the creative industry through events, mentorships and sharing opportunities.

  1. Pay more attention to tracking engagement than followers.

We all know it’s nice to have a lot of social media followers, but how important are these followers if they don’t engage with your content or attend your events? Your priority should be engagement.

2. Focus on providing value for your community.

At Femme Africa, they focus on three pillars for providing value to their community; entertainment, education and empowerment. They entertain, educate and empower their audience through their content, events, and other programs spread across their three verticals; Femme Africa, Femme Mag, and Femme Fest.

3. Don’t underestimate social listening.

Social listening gives you a peek into what your audience cares about and would love to see at your events, so why not? Checking out relevant hashtags and keyword research are great ways to conduct social listening.

Temitope Akinbo, Community Manager of Lagos on a Budget.

Lagos on a Budget creates content and events to show people tips and tricks on navigating having fun in the city of Lagos without breaking the bank.

4. Create clear objectives for your community

This should be the first step in community management. Creating clear and innovative goals for your community will help you work at community management more efficiently.

5. Take advantage of virtual events, i.e. Instagram live sessions and Twitter Spaces.

Virtual events like the one we hosted are a brilliant way to grow your audience and engage your current audience. Social media networks created these features for this purpose, so use them!

6. Constantly communicate with your community.

At Lagos on a Budget, they use email marketing to keep a close-knit relationship with their community. Regular emails, text messages or any other means of communication can reinforce the closeness of your community.
