tix.africa would be nothing without our incredible creators, so we’re very excited to start off this new monthly series in which we spotlight an event organizer to see how they got started.

For our first creator spotlight, we spoke to Awele of The Art Room NG who have been organizing paint classes in Lagos since under her brand The Art Room NG.

Painting lessons accompanied by cocktails or wine are increasing in popularity as a fun way for groups. The typical painting party will last a few hours and attendees will purchase a ticket that includes canvas, painting supplies, drink(s), and an instructor-led painting classes.

Since the pandemic started, in place of her company’s typical Paint N Chill classes, she has been organizing online classes and selling her tickets using tix.africa.

Tell us about The Art Room NG

The Art Room NG is a Lagos based art-therapy space which fosters creativity and improves wellbeing, mindfulness and activities such as painting and craft-making. We offer a variety of materials and meaningful programs led by an instructor, to nurture creativity, insight and explore artistic skills in a relaxing and supportive atmosphere.
The Art Room NG was originally founded on the backbone of healing/ de-stressing through art for millennials. It was created to provide an unconventional creative environment for exploration and free art expression which offers the youth an opportunity to take a break from the fast-paced Lagos lifestyle and discover something new and different from the norm in Lagos.
Currently, we carry out art sessions not only for millenials looking to explore, but also provide our services for birthdays, bridal showers, summer school classes for kids and even corporate team bonding/away days. We have provided our services for a few reputable corporates like Access Bank, BBC, Google Nigeria, Mckinsey Nigeria and a lot more.

How did you find out about tix.africa?

I found out about tix.africa through a friend who had used the website for her event in the past.

Why do you use tix.africa?

I use tix.africa to provide an easier and seamless solution to collecting cash payments or bank transfers for our sessions. In the past we collected payments by bank transfers, which was somewhat difficult to track payments coming in. Now, with tix.africa we are able to track what specific events or paint sessions customers are booking for and their accurate details.

What are the main differences between online events and IRL events for you?

The major difference between online events and IRL events for The Art Room NG is the timing for sessions. We are able to manage the timing for online sessions better as people are more inclined to show up early for the classes. Whereas with IRL events, the sessions stretch longer because people show up a bit late due to traffic or other circumstances. So we have been able to mitigate that problem!

That’s definitely a silver lining. So, do you think you will organise more online events when the pandemic is over?

Yes, Definitely. Although business as usual (physical sessions) is on halt, I think this pandemic has opened up a new business line for us here! We believe that our clients should also have the option to be able to have virtual paint parties. Even after the pandemic, we will continue to provide the option for virtual paint parties whilst still having our regular physical sessions.

What’s the first vacation you’re taking when the pandemic is over and it’s safe to travel again?

As a lover of all things art and nature, the first vacation I will be taking will be the first stop to Nairobi, Kenya, and Kigali, Rwanda. Just a peaceful and serene break with myself and nature!

What features would you like to see on tix.africa?

I’ll like to see a feature where customers can provide additional information like shipping options and delivery address details.

That’s interesting that you mention that, we have some exciting new developments coming up in the next month and one of them would be custom fields to collect additional data from attendees!

If you’ve never attended a Paint N Chill session, you can check out The Art Room NG Instagram page to find out when the next online painting class will be.

Are you planning an event soon? Well, you’ve come to the right place.
