With the year gradually coming to an end and more creators going back to planning live events, we knew this was the perfect time to release our spanking new feature — discount codes.

Discount codes are personalized or publicly-released codes offered to customers to reduce the price of a ticket. It is a purchasing incentive and sales strategy that creators use to boost tickets sales. If there’s one thing people love, it’s a good deal.

Here’s an example of how to use discount codes as a sales strategy.

Dave is an event creator who is planning an end of the year concert. Let’s call this party — Vibration Night. To boost ticket sales, Dave uses discount codes to incentivize his attendees into purchasing tickets. He starts by releasing early bird tickets at a 20% off automatic discount for the first two weeks after publishing his event. Then, he creates a code — VIBE2021 for the first 100 people who purchase tickets to apply at checkout. This code gives them N1000 off the ticket price.

He realizes that regular tickets are now selling fast, and nobody is buying VIP tickets. To boost sales of VIP tickets, he does a flash sale and creates a 50% off automatic discount on all VIP tickets for one day!

By using discount codes, Dave has created multiple sales peaks, thereby increasing his sales and revenue.

Apart from increasing ticket sales, another use of discount codes is to track what promotional strategy is working for your event. You may want to offer different discount codes for each of the marketing channels you are using to see which one provides the most sales. This also works if you are employing the use of influencer marketing. This way, you can tell which influencer has the most reach to your target audience.

Discount codes also work for when you have sponsors and want to show your appreciation to them. You can simply create a unique discount code for them to share with their staff or customers.

The discount codes feature is available to all tix users. tix free users can create only one discount code while tix pro users can create as many discount codes as they want to.

Creating a discount code for your event is pretty straightforward.

All you need to do is:

  1. Log in to your tix account.
  2. Create an event and fill in all the necessary details.
  3. Save your event and create tickets.
  4. Tap on the ‘manage’ tab and click ‘create discount’.

5. Select if you want your guests to use a discount code or you want an automatic discount to be applied when they order tickets.

6. For both discount codes and automatic discounts, create a name for the discount offer. You want your discount name to be unique, catchy and memorable, e.g. CATCHTHEVIBE.

7. After you pick a catchy name, you can:

  • Decide if you want a percentage discount, e.g. 10% off or a fixed value, e.g. minus N3000.
  • Select what tickets the discount should apply to if you have more than one ticket type.
  • Determine how many times the discount code can be used.
  • Set a minimum order quantity for the discount code to apply.
  • Select when you want the discount offer to start and end.

8. Save your changes and publish your event.
