To listen to an artist explain their creative process is, most often, to hear tales of time and torment, of lifetime struggles for recognition, and for the chase of unattainable perfection. It would probably be an understatement, then, to call Paradise Architects impressive — the four-track split EP is the first release for both of the artists involved, and they began the project less than a year ago. Both Melbourne-based, String Theorem and Test Pattern bonded over a mutual love of house music and partying and created an encapsulation of both.

The opening song — from which the EP takes its name — combines jazz chords, a rolling bassline and a piano loop that brings a warm, blissful feeling; a feeling that continues even as the track progression moves from jazz-fueled house to moodier, percussive-driven vibes. The standout song, though, is the third on the list, and the only collaborative effort on the release, Ear Power. The inspiration for the track was drawn from a sunrise set the pair played together at the beginning of summer and features brass cuts and uplifting strings. The culmination is a blend of beatific elements that results in a quintessential disco-house anthem — which would be as suited to a summer festival as it would for the closing track at a nightclub.

CLIPP023 — Paradise Architects EP — String Theorem & Test Pattern available from 5th July 2018 on Clipp Art.
