Laneway Festival is a 15-year-old legendary festival that started in 2004 as a series of concerts in an alley bar in Melbourne, Australia. Initially, titled “Summer Series,” the gathering meant that artists would show up every Sunday and perform in an enclosed and friendly setting. It was pretty straight forward, and that’s what got people absorbed into the phenomenon. By the summer of 2005, the first iteration of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival was born, and it sold out immediately! It was then and there that the Laneway Festival experience first took place!

Where is the festival being held?

Over the years, the festival has expanded from a small bar in Melbourne to another four cities in Australia, namely Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle, and Sydney. Its success is incontestable in the land down under, and as a result, the Laneway Festival experience expanded into New Zealand and Singapore.

What to Expect?

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival is an experience like no other. The festival takes place during the sweltering summer days, where music is the only resolution to the beating hearts of the young cranny music lovers! During a typical Laneway day, the main agenda is quality music. And there’s plenty of it! The organizers go far beyond their reach to ensure the line-up aligns what the festival stands for! That of inducing unbelievable performances from obscure and often-overlooked talent.

So what can you expect? You can expect to be amazed by the amalgam of sumptuous voices that will entertain an eccentric and lively audience. You can expect a feeling that mimics the very roots of the festival. And you can expect to fall in love with the ambiance and the musical climate in a jiffy!

What to look for in 2020

For its 2020 edition, the organizers made a few tweaks that are sure to impress any Laneway newcomer or a veteran for that matter. We know how things can get out of hand quickly during a festival, so we came up with a list of artists that you shouldn’t miss (in our humble opinions)!

If you don’t know who “The 1975” are, we’d strongly suggest you listen to their 2018 album “A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships” and even save it on your favorite playlist. Their quirky pop sound is the reason why they are headlining the festival. We don’t just say this because it’s up there, but their recordings are nothing like their live shows. Their shows are 100 times more enjoyable and energetic.

Tones and I” is another name that you shouldn’t miss. We’ve all hummed to her “Dance Monkey” track. Why not join an entire crowd of people and sing one of 2019’s hottest tracks together.

The festival has a bit of everything for everyone. But bear in mind that everything that’s playing is unique in its own way!

One of the biggest surprises this year in terms of music is undoubtedly BENEE’s live act. Her music is a remedy for the soaking sun with a sound made, to kick-back, absorb the festival vibe, and feel at peace that St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival will be back again next year!
