Festivals aren’t always the best for the ecosystem, but that doesn’t mean we need to stop enjoying them. It just means we should be changing the way we enjoy them.

Here are a few tips you can do to lower your carbon footprint!

Reusable Cups

Re-use. It’s the best way. You don’t need 24 plastic cups to drink 24 vodka sodas.

Food Scraps

Be realistic about what you’ll eat. Don’t bring 10 tins of baked beans, you know you’ll probably be having beer for dinner.

Take your tent home!

Those k-mart tents might be cheap in the short run, but will they really last?

Make-up!

Even those environmentally friendly wipes aren’t going to cut it. Re-using is always the best way.

Biodegradable Glitter

Glitter is a festival essential, but did you know the majority are just microplastics which eventually end up in the world’s oceans?

Eat less meat

Agriculture is still one of the leading causes of carbon emissions. There are always loads of amazing vegetarian alternatives at festivals, you should try them!

Clean up & Recycle

The majority of festivals have recycling programs now. Instead of throwing everything in the trash or leaving it on the floor, put those tinnies in recycling, so they can be recycled into another tinnie!

Use the compost toilet

If there is one, use the compost toilet instead of those chemically infused portaloos.

Glamping

Camping gear can get expensive if you don’t have it already. It’s also a hassle to set-up, let alone pack up. Opt-in for the glamping options, where you don’t have to bring anything and you’ll get to do the festival in style!

Op Shop

Dressing up to festivals are super fun. But let’s be honest, most often the stuff you wear to festivals are not your everyday clothes. Instead of buying brand new and wearing it once, raid op shops for cheap funky clothes and then when you’re done with them, give it back!

Buy public transport or carpool

Many eco-friendly festivals now offer limited car passes to offset carbon emissions. If you missed out it’s not the end of the world. You can always sign up on the Tixel waitlist or take the bus!
