Try to Avoid Love at First Sight

You’ve been given a problem to solve, and you’ve thought about it for a couple of hours, and all of a sudden it hits you: the perfect solution, the big idea. And you absolutely love it! Brainstorm over. Done!

Beware.

First ideas aren’t always the best ideas. Sleep on them and you often find they’re not as big and bright as they seemed the day before.

Our suggestion? Never settle for just one solution. You won’t recognize the right idea until you weigh it in comparison to two or three others (minimum!). And when you’ve selected the winner, don’t forget to polish the rough edges. And when that’s done, make sure you review it in the clear light of the next day.

Even then, you might find yourself starting over, from scratch.
