Take It from a Democratic Digital Strategist: Nasty Women Fight Back

I know a thing or two about trolls. As a social media strategist for the Democratic Party, I spend my days monitoring social media and writing content for our official accounts. I’ve seen nearly every shade of misogynistic right-wing trash:

The slimy king leading this sexist pack? Donald Trump.

Want some examples?

And as it turns out, Trump’s candidacy seems to be digging up and bringing even worse misogynistic vitriol into the light of day. It’s easy to see why: They’ve been empowered by a candidate who is a step away from the presidency. It’s already hurting kids in school — and as I think about my future, I wouldn’t want to bring a child into this world if Donald Trump’s leading the way. Let’s just go through what we already know:

He objectifies 10-year-old girls.

He walks in on naked teenage girls getting dressed.

He grabs women by the pussy. (He told us himself.)

“The only thing this office does is it amplifies who you are. It magnifies who you are. If you disrespected women before you were elected, you will disrespect women once you’re president.” —President Obama

Good people don’t do this. And America is good. The past couple of weeks, I’ve had the privilege to talk to all kinds of people from across the country while on the Forward Together Bus Tour. Turns out, folks had some pretty awesome views on women and why they’re voting for Democrats this election.

These Americans — and all Americans — deserve far better than Donald Trump.

So what’s the solution? I think Hillary Clinton has given us a pretty good answer. We have got to lift each other up. As women. As Democrats. As Americans. We truly are stronger together. And we can’t continue to perpetuate Trump’s and so many other Republicans’ hateful and harmful view of women.

And women know that Trump is bad news for us and the people and issues we care about:

You know how many other countries have women in high offices? We rank 75th globally when it comes to women in national legislatures.

“Hillary is trying to do something that’s never been done. It’s never been done. If it was easy for a woman to be president, then there would have been a woman president. The United States Congress — 19 percent are women. That’s the most we’ve ever had. That makes us 75th in the world, below the global average… We’re bad at electing women to federal office. She was a trendsetter and a pathbreaker but as a nation, we’re not good at this. And that means we can’t take it for granted.” -Senator Tim Kaine

As Elizabeth Warren has said, “nasty women are tough. Nasty women are smart. And nasty women vote. And, on Nov. 8, we nasty women are going to march our nasty feet to cast our nasty votes to get [Trump] out of our lives forever.”

If Donald Trump were elected president, there’s no telling how far he would set us back. Women have to vote on November 8, and we have to go in showing that he isn’t going to have any part in our lives anymore.
