Until a few years ago, our vacations were limited to the United States and Canada, or cruises to Bermuda, except for one trip in 2017 to Cancun, Mexico.
We were hamstrung with a family consisting of me, my wife, and our four younger kids. With our trips limited to the weeks of school breaks and working around vacations with our former spouses, we found it easier to stay within the continental United States, saving time, money, and headaches.
Luckily, kids get older. This has the amazing side effect of freeing up time for the parents to start wandering the globe of their own free will, unencumbered by the limitations of needing to drag kids along to bucket-list destinations that children would find boring.
Hello, Europe.
With our schedules freed, my wife and I began exploring Europe. First Italy, then Paris, Amsterdam, Iceland, and Greece. Each new country we visited provided us with a new appreciation for other cultures, customs, and — most importantly — people.
