Stowaway
Lessons in Leadership and Love
One of the best things about living on the planet Earth is — gravity.
Another great thing is oxygen. And water.
These things continue to entertain me and, if I’m honest, keep me interested in living here. On this planet. And not wanting to travel to Mars.
In the 2021 movie Stowaway we are confronted with all the challenges of not having enough of those things — gravity, oxygen, and to a lesser extent, water.
Not to mention the challenge of traversing about 1000 feet on the smallest diameter pole, to get to a leftover engine that happens to have spare oxygen tanks inside. Why did this super tall, long, skinny pole have to be designed so far away from the crew’s housing?
Solar storms with certain-death-causing radiation is another challenge I’m not interested in facing. I know, they always say, God won’t give you any challenge you’re not ready to handle. Except in this movie, that challenge means certain death.
This movie made me think about all the great challenges and ideas that one brilliant human leader comes up with, and all the other humans say, “sure, let’s do that! YEAH! I’m in!”
