The second week is up

Flexibility

I am already more comfortable with working from home, the family seems to be as well. All though before it was a lot easier to explain to the kids that I have to work, because I would actually be leaving the house to do it. Now I sit behind my little Mac at home and work from there instead.

They did ask why I didn’t have to work with other people. I explained that I still work with other people, but that they just like me are also working from home. It was interesting to see their minds come to peace with that so easily.

The kids also think it is funny that I sometimes talk to my Mac with my headset on. They understand the notion of talking on the phone, but that I am talking to someone else through the computer is a new one.

Flexibility

One of the things I wanted to mention as well is that I think there are actually to distinct parts of working remote.

You have naturally the fact that you are not working in the office, but instead are you are working from for example home. But the other part that makes this great is having flexible working hours.

Because if you don’t have flexible working hours then working from home will mostly mean you cut your commute time to zero. But having flexible working hours actually gives you great flexibility, greater so then purely working remote.

This week has been somewhat chaotic, there where many things that I had to arrange. And all of those things of course had to happen during normal working hours. So, instead of taking time off, I will work some hours in the evening during the weekend.

Thankfully my bosses care more about getting the work done then when the work is actually done.
