Born Today: Ethan Stiefel

Ballet dancer Ethan Stiefel (1973-) studied at the School of American Ballet and joined the NYCB company from 1989–1997, when he joined ABT as a principal until 2012. He was a guest artist for ballet companies worldwide, including the Australian Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and the Maryinsky Ballet and took over the directorship of American Repertory Ballet in 2020. He is perhaps best known for his role in the ballet movie Center Stage (2000) and his appearance in the film, Born to Be Wild — Leading Men of the ABT (2007), alongside Ángel Corella (1975-) and José Manuel Carreño (1968-).

Also Born Today: Imperial Ballet Company dancer and later member of the original Ballets Russes, Pierre Vladimiroff (1893–1970), later taught at the newly-established School of American Ballet from 1934–1967. Vladimiroff shared a birthday with his wife, Felia Doubrovska (1896–1981), who danced with the Maryinsky Ballet, the Ballets Russes, and also taught at the SAB until 1980.
