Social Engagements

Comedian, John Crist, most recently known for Millenial International, has released a new video about The Perfect Instagram Proposal. He captures matters all too well, and it’s fair to say many fights have been had over the resulting photographs after an engagement. I’d like to call this satire, but I’m not entirely sure we can.

Comebacks

Football is gone, basketball and hockey are at their hazy midway points, which can be fun if you’re in the race, and baseball is a bit out. Our only saving grace until playoffs for the mid-season sports is that March Madness is around a month out. Still, some of us feel a void without some high stakes anxiety and panic to keep us company and on the edge of our seat. In that absence, OZY has provided their top-five underrated comeback stories, most with the partnered highlight video. From a toeless feet to an un-perfect 13 overshadowing a perfect three to shattering ethnic boundaries on the Tour to a pair of Division II championships, they’ve provider reminder to timeless sports memories you may have already had or simply never bore witness to before now.

Moments like these stick with me. No matter what is going on outside of the field, the court, or the course, something is decided in that competition. Heartbreak is guaranteed, as is pure bliss. Sometimes, like these moments and many others, the pain and euphoria of losing and winning is accompanied by an incredible sequence of minutes that invites a simple spectator into the experienced thrill of being an actual party of the event.

It Only Took 33 Seasons.

ABC has announced that the next Bachelorette will be Rachel Lindsay, an attorney out of Dallas, TX. Why the clamor around such an announcement? This is the first African-American lead cast in both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. The truth is this should just be a simple headline of “The next Bachelorette is Rachel Lindsay!” where race is of no concern or visibility; however, it’s a bridge to cross, and it’s finally being crossed. It’s sad to be there/here even with all the progress made, but there’s still much of a journey ahead. Hopefully news outlets will normalize the matter and leave the adjectives out of the headlines, but likely not, as it’s quite the change so quite the story. After all, I’m just as guilty for posting something about it. I guess we have to begin somewhere.

Sharing Screens and Space

Amazon is getting into the web-conferencing game with the new Amazon Chime. This, like any competitor, looks to be the same as competitors in the business market like Skype and Cisco with a simple change of interface, though it does look to be a cleaner looking interface. Then again, each new one looks exactly that, new.

This move makes sense with the infrastructure already had through Amazon Web Services, so if you got the foundation there already, why not? It’ll be interesting to see how well it does in such a competitive market, but again, when it comes to cloud-based anything, they’ve got the avenues already available and in-house.

Low-Budget Guardians

This is actually pretty impressive, and fun but still terrible. Still fun. It’s another Sweded trailer to feast your eyes upon, and I’m ending this sentence without preposition and instead the word, “preposition”.

The new Guardians premieres in theaters on May 5th (US).
