On April 30th, 1900, as engine 382 rushed towards a stalled freight train on the tracks, engineer Casey Jones died at his station while slamming the brakes in an attempt to slow down enough to save the passengers on board.
Jones was able to slow his train from 75mph down to about 35mph, and was the only fatality of the crash.
