What If Mom Never Approves?

The counselor ends the sessions by asking me if her unhappiness is catastrophic for me. I immediately think no it isn’t, yet I am 52 years old and in counseling to deal with issues I’ve had since childhood. I remember periods of life where I wouldn’t have had the time or energy to care if she was unhappy. I remember times when my unhappiness was so profound I couldn’t see beyond it to see hers.
