Coming Soon to an Apple Device Near You

IOS 7 , OSX Mavericks , A fresh take on WWDC 2013 and much more from the world of Apple

I recently watched the WWDC 2013 Apple Keynote and am going to give you a perspective on the many things that they covered and things that you can look forward to.

First, Apple released IOS 7 for their mobile devices such as the IPad or IPhone. This was the star of the show, and by far the most talked about. So here’s some information to keep you up to speed.

IOS has always been the industry leader on smartphones up until a couple of years ago and this is what is going to bring it back up to par with what else is out there today. The following devices will be receiving this update: IPhone 4 , 4s, 5, and any new devices they release this year. IPad: 2 , 3 , and the IPad Mini. This has always been the most easy to use mobile operating system to use ever created, but along with that comes a very boring interface, almost no customization, and very limiting settings. The IPhone has always been focused on apps which is why their system has always been good for this purpose, but with the IOS 7 update coming this fall, that’s all about to change. The design team at Apple has been hard at work on the new look, and I think you are going to like it. This update will provide the following:

Control Center / Better Notification Center / Multi-Tasking with Screen Shots / ITunes Radio / New Photos App with better Organization / Air Drop to send files, contacts, and photos to others with IPhone’s around you / New Camera App / New Safari (web Browser) that brings the content closer to you / Siri assistance can now answer more questions and gets two new voices / redesigned mail, weather, and text messaging apps/ and a better home screen with new transitions.

Because this is only part of the gamechanger that we were all looking for, this shouldn't be what makes you buy a brand new Apple device if you already own one. That said, if you are looking into buying an apple device for your first time, I would wait until the new ones are released sometime in the fall/holiday season that will hopefully offer new features alongside IOS 7.

Here’s a look at IOS 7 on Apple’s Website with pictures and a feature overview. http://www.apple.com/ios/ios7/

The next thing that shows Apple really wants to improve the Mac experience from what it is today is the new line of MacBook Air’s, The new Mac Pro, and OS X Mavericks.

Apple 2013

This is what could change my mind about Macs and the cost might start to make a little more sense to me. Where Macs really started to shine were in photo and video editing, great hardware and Huge innovation in battery life and screens. One problem, they cost more a lot more but don't really last too much longer than an average computer. What you are paying for is brand and quality. I can completely understand this since I own one myself. My recommendation, if you are going to buy a mac, stay away from the regular MacBooks and buy a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, if you want to get a desktop computer most everything will suit you fine. With Apple you must invest in the Apple ecosystem because IPhones and IPads work best and sync best between their own brand, making everything much easier.

OS X Mavericks brings many things to the table such as:

An IBooks app for Macs to allow for reading Ebooks on your mac, a built in maps application, better battery life management, software that knows where to put your processing power so now you will see less of that darn colored spinning beachball (Apple fans, you know what I'm talking about) , New calendar, mail, and IMessage apps, Safari redesign meant to work specifically with macs for max performance, ICloud keychain to sync your passwords between your Apple devices completely securely, multi displays for use with multiple monitors, notifications that sync between your devices (sorry Apple products only work with this feature),and the option to put files into categories using tags in the finder windows.

This huge feature list fixes most of the problems with the old versions of mac and will make most mac lovers happy for the time being while bringing many new customers to the table. If you have never considered getting a Mac instead of a PC/ Windows 8 Computer now might be a good time. Again wait until fall so you will not have to pay for a software upgrade and can get OS X Mavericks preloaded onto your Mac. You can find these features here

Apple also released A brand to Mac Pro and joked about how they couldn’t innovate anymore than this.

Heres a Picture,

That’s right they packed their entire Mac Pro line into this cylinder shaped computer. This is absolutely amazing, and this computer has got it all. Tons of ports, Ram, hard drive space, multiple monitor support, and so much more. Here is a little more info on that at: http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/

There is so much to say that I couldn’t possibly tell you about all of it and I think Apple’s website sums it up pretty well.

The Final, almost expected announcement of WWDC 2013 was ITunes Radio.

Fastcolabs and Apple 2013

Most of the world was expecting something like Spotify, Rdio, or Google Play Music, and also thought it would be called IRadio, sadly this is just a personalized Radio Station that lets you buy songs you like on ITunes. This service will be offered for free if you choose to listen to Ads, and is you subscribe to ITunes Match, it will be Ad Free. Even though this isn't what we had hoped, it’s a nice feature to have and will be included as a part of IOS 7 later this fall.

So that’s the main wrap up of WWDC 2013 and they showcased many different useful and needed things here hopefully bringing what most people wanted to the table, and opening many future blog post and opportunities to come.

Until then, I hope this helps bring you up to date and gives you something to look forward to this fall from Apple.

Thanks,

Ethan Irving
