Local Spotlight: TWW LA Member Starts Fund-A-Campaign Friday

New year, new initiative! Lauren Black, a member of Together We Will Los Angeles has started Fund-A-Campaign Friday, with the goal of helping to usher Democrats into office up and down the ballot in the 2018 midterms. Each Friday a candidate is highlighted, with links to support them on social media and donate to their campaign.

According to Lauren, a self-described Reality TV producer by day, admin of a secret political Facebook group by night, and proud member of the Resistance: “As 2018 approached, I started to see people in my life getting defeatist with all the headlines and the bad news out of DC. And what’s been keeping me inspired is the idea that we can really make a difference in the 2018 midterms — hope is not lost… it’s been so motivating to think that I can have a say in sending the type of people I like to Congress and electing them into other positions of power. The elections in Virginia and Doug Jones’s win in Alabama have only underscored for me that the real power we have is at the ballot box. And there are a lot of great candidates out there that could use a little support and attention.”

The latest candidate to be featured by Fund-A-Campaign Friday is Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones, who has returned to her hometown in the 23rd District of Texas in order to run against two-term incumbent Will Hurd (R). If elected, she would be the first lesbian, Iraq War vet and Filipina-American to represent Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.
