Local Spotlight: SONG Posts Bail for Protester from Together We Will RVA

When a pro-Confederate group showed up in Richmond, Virginia, to demonstrate on behalf of Monument Avenue’s Confederate statues, they were far out-numbered by counter-demonstrators, one of whom was Brittany, an administrator for Together We Will RVA. When Brittany confronted a man purporting to represent Black Lives Matter but who was, in fact, a known fraud, she was arrested for disorderly conduct although video of the event shows she did nothing wrong.

Within no time at all SONG (Southerners on New Ground) came to the rescue and posted bail. SONG is a regional Queer Liberation organization made up of people of color, immigrants, undocumented people, people with disabilities, working class and rural and small town, LGBTQ people in the South. TWW RVA had already begun efforts to raise bail and was able to donate $1,100 back to SONG. We are happy to report that all charges against Brittany were dropped.
