If a blogging website is walking down the street and bumps into a social media platform, what do you get?

Medium!

Together We Will USA is pleased to announce that we are now publishing our writers on Medium! You can still visit the www.twwusa.org website to find these stories, which will continue being shared with you in our e-newsletters and through the TWW USA accounts on Facebook and Twitter. Note that Medium differs from these social media platforms because it was founded with a focus on writing, as well as with the intent to host the thoughtful exchange of ideas.

How Does Medium Work?

If you choose to be an active reader on Medium, you can “clap” for a story to express that you think it’s valuable. This is similar to a “like” on Facebook, except that you are allowed to enthusiastically “clap” multiple times for the same story.

If you would like to be more specific in your praise, you can highlight a specific sentence or section. If more than one person highlights the same thing, it will show up as a “top highlight.”

If you would like to interact with someone’s story in Medium in more depth, you can write a comment that will show up in two places — at the end of the story you commented on, and listed on your profile.

You might consider writing your own pieces on Medium — if you want to share your perspective on current issues, or explain how you or your local group have been involved in politics or activism, please contact us at TWWnewsletter@gmail.com. We’re always looking for new writers!

If any of the above interests you, we encourage you to log into Medium using your Facebook, Twitter, or Google account, or to create a new account on Medium using your email address. An advantage of logging in with your Facebook or Twitter account is that you will automatically be connected with your friends/followers who are already on Medium.

What’s on Medium?

On Medium, you can find writing from well-known public figures like Hillary Clinton next to well-written, thought-provoking pieces from college students. Expand your mind by reading about women and people of color who have been left out of history, or get more done by reading tips on how to improve your productivity. There’s something for everyone!

If you’re interested in eliminating racism, sexism, and other types of prejudice and discrimination, you might want to check out some of the accounts we’re following and reading:

Real Talk: Women of Color and Allies The voices of WOC and allies working against racism and oppression.

Ijeoma Oluo Come for the feminist rants… stay for the selfies and kid quotes. Inclusive feminism here.

The Establishment The conversation is much more interesting when everyone has a voice. Media funded and run by women; new content daily.

Tim Wise Antiracism educator and author.

Roxane Gay Curated the candid collection Unruly Bodies.

If you’re already on Medium, which writers are your favorites? Let us know at TWWnewsletter@gmail.com and we can add them to the list!
