You can find the Korean version of the article here.
Hello, this is Layer 2 network developer, Tokamak Network. This posting will discuss an upcoming major change to Titan Network’s ecosystem.
Shutdown Notice
Shutdown date: 2023 August 30th 18:00 GMT+9
Service name: Auto Relay Service
Affected coverage: Any contracts that uses L1CrossDomainMessenger contract to relay messages from Titan to Ethereum Network.
Affected dapps: Tokamak Bridge
How will this effect me?
Tokamak Bridge users
If you have initiated withdraw from Titan using Tokamak Bridge before 2023 August 30th 18:00 GMT+9, you do not have to do anything different, your transaction will be automatically relayed after 7-day challenge period.
Any withdrawals initiated after August 30th, 2023 at 18:00 GMT+9 will require manual claiming from Tokamak Bridge after a 7-day challenge period, using the new interface that is expected to be open before September 6th, 2023 (see below). We will provide more detailed guide soon.
dapp developers
If your dapp uses messaging with the L1CrossDomainMessenger contract to relay messages from Titan to Ethereum, you must provide a user interface that enables the finalization of messages on L1.
What is Auto Relay Service?
Auto Relay Service relays messages from the Titan network to a contract on Ethereum using L1CrossDomainMessenger. This is accomplished by automatically sending a relevant transaction on Ethereum after the 7-day challenge period has passed.
For example, finalizing a withdrawal (from Titan to Ethereum) using Tokamak Bridge currently utilizes this service to eliminate the need for the user to manually send the transaction after the 7-day challenge period.
Why are you discontinuing Auto Relay Service?
Since the launch of Titan Network, Tokamak Network has been relaying messages on behalf of users and has not provided a user interface for finalizing the message on Ethereum. However, we have identified several issues with this approach and have determined that it is not suitable for long-term L2 network operation.
One of the main reasons not to support Auto Relay Service is that it can result in a poor user experience for services that require Titan → Ethereum messaging like withdrawal. If the Auto Relay Service is down or unavailable, there is no user interface to finalize the message on Ethereum to withdraw the asset. This can leave users feeling anxious and lead to a poor user experience on Titan.
Another significant issue is that many existing L2 dapps will have incompatible UI with Titan, as they provide rich UI or backend service to manually finalize the message on Ethereum.
FAQ:
- Can I not withdraw ETH and other assets from Titan Network?
You can still withdraw funds using Tokamak Bridge. After the 7-day challenge period has passed, Tokamak Bridge allows users to manually claim their withdrawals through the new interface.
- What is 7-day challenge period?
Users are required to wait for a period of 7 days when moving assets out of Titan into Ethereum. This period of time is called the Challenge Period and serves to help secure the assets stored on Titan.
- Why do I need to claim my withdrawal on Ethereum network?
You must request a withdrawal on the Ethereum network in order to move the asset from the bridge to your wallet.
- What happens if I withdraw from Titan after 2023 August 30th 18:00 GMT+9
You will have to manually withdraw from Tokamak Bridge after 7-day challenge period has been passed. We will provide more detailed guide soon.
