Fake web site teaches investors to be more careful
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched a ICO fake project. They thought it would show investors how dangerous it can be to invest in absolutely unreliable crypto projects.
The webpage turned out to be very caricature, containing a timer and a huge red button that said “Sale”. If you try to buy coins, a page will open, informing that the resource HoweyCoins was created for educational purposes. It also says about signals that should alert investors, for example, promising a high income, advertising from celebrities and others. Vladimir Smerkis, Tokenbox co-founder and managing partner, shared his thoughts with Business FM:
“In fact, the US authorities, of course, liked to use various comic techniques to warn investors or even warn people about something important. And, of course, this website was launched on the last day of the Consensus conference in New York, which is quite significant for the entire crypto industry. A large number of people gathered there previously, and this year more than 8 thousand people were there. Therefore the fake site was launched just in time and went viral. There were a lot of such ICO jokes. There was an ICO to get Vitalik Buterin (the founder of the Ethereum cryptocurrency) more fit. As we know, Vitalik is not the most powerful athlete. Of course, this warns investors that there is a lot of spam around, a very large percentage of fraudulent ICOs. It could only be another joke, sending ETH or Bitcoins there.
