Balancer is one of the leading DeFi protocols, recently surpassing $2B of total value locked. A growing number of DeFi projects use Balancer Pools as the core building block for liquidity mining, self-balancing portfolios, smart Defi indices, and other use cases. With V2, Balancer will bring programmable liquidity to a new level again, offering most innovative, highly customizable parameters for a wide range of application cases.

Since its inception in 2020, Balancer has become one of the most important building blocks in DeFi. With the launch of V2, Balancer keeps pushing the boundaries of programmable liquidity and customizable AMM logic. To leverage this power, we need infrastructure, education, and collaboration. Balancer is sharing our vision for #OpenScience and rigorous token engineering in DeFi. We couldn’t be more excited to establish this ecosystem together.

About Balancer Simulations

Over a runtime of three months Balancer Simulations will gather a group of DeFi researchers to work on challenges like Dynamically Adjusting Pools, Efficient Liquidity Mining, LP Risk Management, and AMM-based complex financial products. In a rigorous engineering process, they’ll explore and specify pool configurations. As applied in various stress test contexts and frameworks, simulations have proven to be a valuable tool to detect challenges and sensitivities early on.

This research group follows a collaboration of Balancer, PowerPool, and EthicHub, providing the first open-source general model for Balancer Pools V1 released in March 2021.
The research group’s goal is to come up with insights, build simulation infrastructure, and validate design choices — accessible and re-usable for the entire Balancer Ecosystem.

We are teaming up with TE Academy, because we believe in the power of ecosystems. Establishing cryptoeconomic research and open-source infrastructure will be an essential milestone for Balancer’s success and the projects building on our protocol. We are proud to spearhead this development in the DeFi space.
Fernando Martinelli, Founder Balancer

Balancer Simulations was kicked off by a grant project to build a first general version of Balancer Pools in the complex systems engineering Python package cadCAD — funded by Balancer and Powerpool, kicked off by EthicHub. Read more about this project here.

What’s next?

Balancer Simulations start on April 29, 2021.
We invite individual researchers, DeFi projects, and ecosystem partners to join this initiative — applications are open until April 19, 2021.

a) DeFi Projects: Are you currently working on a Balancer Pools application case? Are you looking for researchers to support your challenge? Get access to co-researchers to collaborate and add missing skills in your team, like modeling, Python programming, math or machine learning. APPLY HERE

b) Individual Researchers: Are you interested in participating in cryptoeconomic research in the DeFi sector? Work on real Balancer Pool application cases. Ideally, you have a background in finance, economics, math, engineering, machine learning, or computer science. APPLY HERE

c) Ecosystem Partners: Do you share our vision of #OpenScience in the DeFi sector? Are you looking for joint activities with Balancer Simulations? Share your vision with cryptoeconomic researchers, co-fund grants and open-source infrastructure, and co-host open working sessions and presentations. APPLY HERE.
