According to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg, Bank of America (BOFA) has established a new team to research on cryptocurrencies. This has been confirmed by a spokeswoman for the bank.

The new cryptocurrency research team will be led by Alkesh Shah, a founding member of Data & Innovation Strategy Group at the bank. The team will report to Michael Maras, who leads Bank of America’s global fixed income, currencies, and commodities research. Other than cryptocurrencies, the team will also research on technologies that tied to digital currencies.

“Cryptocurrencies and digital assets constitute one of the fastest growing emerging technology ecosystems. We are uniquely positioned to provide thought leadership due to our strong industry research analysis, market-leading global payments platform and our blockchain expertise.” — said the head of Global Research of Bank of America, Candace Browning, in the memo.
