MasterCard Survey shows 40% intend to use crypto for payments next year
A survey by Mastercard has revealed that four out of ten people intend to use cryptocurrency for payments next year.
The survey with title ‘Consumer Appetite for Digital Payments Takes Off’ was published on May 4 and polled more than 15,500 people across 18 countries.
The results show millennials are big on cryptocurrencies, with 67% saying that they are more open to use cryptocurrency than they were in the past one year. Besides, 77% of millennials are interested to learn more on cryptocurrency, while 75% agree they would use digital assets if they have a better understanding.
According to U.S. Census Bureau, millennials are people born between 1982 and 2000. In other words, millennials are people that aged between 21 and 39 years old this year.
With Mastercard’s announcement in February that it would support digital asset payments, in which almost one billion users to use at more than 30 million merchants, it can be said that the move to expand access to cryptocurrencies has begun.
While consumer interest in “floating cryptocurrencies” such as Bitcoin is high, Mastercard stated that work is still needed to ensure consumer choice, protection and regulatory compliance.
It further added that the covid-19 pandemic has changed how people view on digital payments, as findings show 93% of people will consider to use at least one emerging payment method next year, such as cryptocurrency, biometrics, contactless, or QR code.
“As we look ahead, we need to continue to enable all choices, both in-store and online, to shape the fabric of commerce and make the digital economy work for everyone.” — said Craig Vosburg, Chief Product Officier at MasterCard.
The company agreed that they need to enable all payment methods going forward, including cryptocurrencies.
