The Japanese I.T giant Fujitsu has recently announced that it will soon be releasing a blockchain platform for the retail industry.

This announcement came from Fujitsu headquarters this morning via a press release, outlining the company’s plans and how the blockchain will benefit the traditional retail and tourism sectors.

“Fujitsu today announced the launch of Fujitsu Intelligent Society Solution Blockchain Asset Service, a cloud service that provides retail mechanisms, such as digital points, stamps and coupons, which can be used for a limited time in specified areas including tourist sites, markets, and shopping centres, using blockchain technology.”

The purpose of this is to benefit both consumers and retailers by offering discounts in exchange for data, all of which will be recorded on Fujitsu’s hybrid blockchain.

For those retailers that decide to connect their promotions through this Fujitsu platform, it will allow them to allocate, track and distribute coupons all within a secure and monitored system. On the other side, customers who use these smartphone enabled platforms will also be able to connect to promotions that appeal to them.

As well as offering companies peace of mind over promotional activities, the blockchain is designed to allow customers to safely access these blockchain solutions even if they are unaware of blockchains as a whole.

The benefits for the retailers and businesses that sign will allow them to make better business decisions based on the information that customers provide. Whilst datasystems at the present moment allow basic information such as age and gender, these new promotional activities recorded through customers preferences will see business make informed promotional activities.

This news comes as the latest Fujitsu solution that involves blockchain technology. The company has stated deep interest in the technology and has launched multiple projects that all utilise the technology in multiple ways.

The Fujitsu Intelligent Solution Blockchain Asset is set to debut trade fair Interop Tokyo 2018, on June 13.
