2017 will go down in the history books as the most transformative year of our lives. Populism has never been stronger and the corrupt establishment has never been weaker. For the first time ever, there is legitimate fear among the elite. While they are still trying to ignore the obvious tectonic societal shift that is underway, their days are clearly numbered.
Some compare the rise of cryptocurrencies to the introduction of the internet itself in the 90’s. But while the internet was an amazing achievement, it has lost so much of its value over the years because the power has been centralized among a few walled gardens. It wasn’t always this way, and the early days were the prosperous and enjoyable ones.
We are on the cusp of a movement of decentralization in all aspects of life that that has already began to materially disrupt the world. Clearly the sentiment has been altered. People are starting to take control of their lives. The media is in a sharp vertical decline. We sold out our token sale well ahead of expectations in only 12 days. This happened without a single press release or any substantial advertising. A feat that would be impossible to pull off only a year ago.
Anybody with young kids can clearly see where the world is moving. YouTubers have replaced the pundits on TV as influencers. Many crazy people of generations past have been vindicated as prophets. Power is rapidly slipping away from governments and in to the hands of ordinary people.
Unlike the internet of the 90’s however, oppressive regimes are not able to regulate itself out of this. Mathematics has replaced the currency in several countries already. The list is continuing to grow. People around the world are becoming empowered as the old system shows obvious signs of crumbling.
We believe that this is still an early and developing story. Like many of the Web 1.0 companies, the crypto industry has its share of hucksters and fakers. Many are out for a quick buck, but others truly have the staying power necessary to make a real difference by not actually trying to make a difference. Be wary of anybody trying too hard to enact change.
That is the paradox of decentralization of course. As the nascent become powerful, power quickly corrupts and all systems revert back to the mean. This is not new. It has been played out throughout human history in countless revolutions where the rebels have become the next brutal dictators. And this is what has happened in the internet itself, and is the reason we are where we are right now with unprecedented disdain for anything tightly controlled.
