TOKOPEDIA DATA turns 4: a celebration of bigger team and commitment
Most people think that data is always about facing numbers. It seems that people working in data field sit in front of their laptops and monitors whole day to see rows and columns of numbers, or even syntax, codes, etc… Do we do that in Tokopedia? Of course, YASS! We need our tools to create AWESOME dashboard for our users, provide IMPACTFUL insights for business and product teams to make decision, and of course, more importantly, to create GREAT EXPERIENCE for Tokopedia’s buyers and sellers as our proofs of commitment.
What makes it even better is the GREAT TEAM we have at Tokopedia.
THE FIRST EVER DATA ANNIVERSARY PARTY
GREAT TEAM starts with sharing pains and struggle together as well as celebrating success and special events together. On 10 August 2018, we had the first ever data anniversary party. Woohoo! DATA TEAM are now FOUR years old with at least 80 Nakamas, 20 times of its size in our birth year, 2014. It currently consists of sub-teams of Data Analysts, Business Intelligence, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists.
What else is amazing? In this event, we managed to gather all those Data teams working at both Jakarta and India offices. Funny that before we only reached each other through Tokopedia’s internal messenger app and conference call. But now, we are like couples getting back together. *aww, sweet*
So, what did we do during this special event?
SHARING IS CARING
With Tokopedia’s huge size of marketplace, digital products, and fintech business lines, we were divided into different modules. On daily basis, we focused on our own modules, without knowing much of other teammates’ work. In this special event, we had some representatives from different modules share PROBLEMS, SOLUTIONS, and IMPACTS they had brought to Tokopedia. Why? By doing this, we are able to know different perspectives, improve knowledge of tools and techniques, have discussion on how we are going to move forward; all mainly for providing impact for Tokopedia and Indonesia as our commitment.
FUN MOMENTS: ICE BREAKING AND GAMES
We had an ice-breaking game to get ourselves closer with each other, since we had a great deal of new members joining our team. At one round of the game, each group had to create a line by standing in order of their number of ex-girlfriends or ex-boyfriends they had in a given time. Ha! Now, we know everybody’s secrets~. *smirked silently*.
Next, the most laughable game would be FAMILY FEUD. “Name part of the body that moves, when a person laughs!” Well, one team mentioned nose. Seriously?! Imagine when you are laughing, and your nose moves!
Next, we had KOMUNIGAYA. Each team stood in a line and the front-liners were informed about songs and the movement of singers in the song. Then, they imitated the movement to second-liners without telling them what the song was. Second-liners had to do the same to third-liners, and so on. The last person in the team had to quickly run to the front and tell the MC what the song was. The correct guesser and its team had to dance in front of everyone and imitated the movements.

At the end, we did not forget about blowing candles! It’s not a birthday without cake and candles! Here is our cool cake! Ta-da!
Our VP of Data, Youssef Ouyhya and Head of Analytics, Victor Setya had the privilege to blow candles for all of us! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, DATA!
And of course, THIS IS US, AMAZING DATA NAKAMAS at TOKOPEDIA, who sit in front of laptops and monitors daily to create AMAZING INSIGHTS and IMPACTS for Tokopedia and for all of you who happen to be TOKOPEDIA’s users!
And lastly, we would like to apologise in a very very kind manner, that we TRULY TRULY FORGOT to take pictures of us while having the dinner, because we LOVED OUR FOOD too much and we ENJOYED OUR TIME TOGETHER.
