The Daiwa Institute of Research (DIR) and NEC announced the joint development of a new core system for financial institutions’ securities businesses. The system has been adopted by Daiwa Securities and went live in June of this year for back-office operations such as customer account management.

The new system enables easy connection with various financial institutions’ services and achieves a highly portable system that is not restricted by the operating environment.

Features of the New System

1. APIs Enabling Connectivity with Various Services

The new system redefines application implementation units to clarify the role of each function and provide APIs accordingly. This facilitates connections from a variety of services, allowing each function to be utilized as a component for agile responses to business needs.

2. Adoption of a Container Infrastructure for Flexible Resource Allocation and High Portability

The new system leverages container technology for its infrastructure, enabling the flexible allocation and management of system resources. It also achieves a highly portable infrastructure that allows for hybrid cloud utilization. By utilizing containerization, the system can be deployed in various operating environments, not just for Daiwa Securities.

Red Hat OpenShift was chosen as the operating environment for Daiwa Securities. High business continuity is achieved by operating two active systems in parallel. The container technology used in this system can also be used in other cloud service environments.

3. Future Outlook

Leveraging its extensive experience in securities business systems and the new system design expertise gained through this project, DIR will continue to expand the new system and further promote the development of a core system platform for the securities industry.

NEC, as a key partner of DIR, will continue to work on platform construction and leverage the knowledge gained from this project to help customers improve productivity and create new value.
