Digital Garage Financial Technology (DGFT), a subsidiary of Digital Garage (DG) that is engaged in the payment business, will start offering a terminal-less cashless payment service called “CloudPay Neo,” which does not require payment terminals, targeting business travel and visiting services, retail and restaurant businesses.

The use of cashless transactions in Japan is steadily increasing, and in 2022 the cashless payment ratio reached 36%, with the amount of payments totalling JPY 111trn. As payment methods diversify, cashless transactions offer benefits to businesses in terms of increased sales and operational efficiency, but many small and medium-sized businesses are hesitant to introduce cashless transactions due to costs such as settlement fees and installation costs of payment terminals.

To solve such issues, DG has been offering “Cloud Pay,” a cashless payment service that enables the bulk introduction and centralized management of multiple QR code payment services by simply installing a single QR code at a storefront since May 2019. Furthermore, in order to meet the needs of businesses that want to easily use various payment methods, including credit cards, in a terminal-less manner, DGFT has decided to develop and provide “CloudPay Neo,” which has expanded functions from “CloudPay”.

“CloudPay Neo” is a terminal-less cashless payment service that allows consumers to make credit card and various ID payments by reading QR codes. Consumers scan the QR code with their smartphones and enter their order information on the payment screen that appears. They then select their preferred payment method to complete payment.

Initially, the five major credit card brands, and PayPay are supported. d-pay, au PAY, Rakuten Pay, MerPay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, UnionPay, and Alipay International payments are scheduled to be supported by September 2023.

In addition to reducing costs related to the installation and maintenance of payment terminals, businesses can use the payment screens provided by DGFT, enabling them to quickly start using the payment system without the hassle and cost of system development. In addition, since DGFT handles all contracts with settlement service providers and sales settlement in a single package, the service streamlines the business operations related to payment collection and management, from introduction to operation.

Since this service is easy to install and portable, it is suitable for use not only in restaurants and retail stores, but also in on-site services and events where staff visit customers’ homes and businesses to provide services and products. It can also be used as a backup in the event of POS cash register failure or malfunction, or in the event of a disaster or power outage.

DGFT plans to enhance the functions of CloudPay Neo by adding additional payment methods, supporting recurring billing, and making the payment screen multilingual (English and Chinese) by September 2023. DGFT will continue to enhance safe, secure, and convenient services and functions to meet a wide range of diversifying needs of both consumers and businesses.

The DG Group is promoting the “DG FinTech Shift,” a group strategy centered on DGFT’s payment platform, the largest of its kind in Japan. By providing a suite of frictionless payment and financial services that facilitate the smooth flow of money, we will continue to improve the customer experience and support the promotion of DX in Japan.
