JI Accident & Fire Insurance has started offering the “Suitcase Damage Claims Automatic Payment Service”, where AI detects damage to suitcases from photos of the damage and automatically transfers the insurance claims in the overseas travel insurance claim payment process. JI Accident & Fire Insurance built this service together with System Research and IBM Japan.

With this service, AI analyzes photos taken and uploaded by customers, detects damage, and evaluates the details. By utilizing AI, accident response personnel no longer need to visually check for damage or process payments, which means that insurance payments can now be made as soon as the same day, instead of the three days that it previously took. By providing this service, JI Accident & Fire Insurance will improve customer satisfaction by reducing the time it takes to make insurance payments, and reduce the workload of its employees.

This service was developed in-house by JI Insurance with the support of System Research’s AI specialist team, using IBM Japan’s AI image recognition solution “IBM Maximo Visual Inspection.” IBM Maximo Visual Inspection is a low-code application that enables AI learning, making it easy to implement even without specialized knowledge such as a data scientist. By loading a large amount of image data into the AI and performing deep learning, a learning model is created that determines the damage content of each part of the suitcase, and the model is used to automatically detect damage. This has made it possible to automate the image judgment of suitcase damage, which requires a large amount of human work in insurance payment operations.

JI Insurance plans to roll out this service online to other insurance companies as a service that can be used for quick and efficient insurance payments. In addition, the service is also planned to be rolled out to non-insurance companies as a variety of compensation services, such as a unique compensation system for suitcase sales manufacturers and a compensation option for checked suitcases when booking a flight with airlines, including LCCs.
