The “Drive Recorder Road Manager”, an AI road inspection support service provided by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (MSI) of the MS&AD Insurance Group and UrbanX Technologies, has been awarded the “Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award” at the “6th Japan Open Innovation Grand Prize”.

The Japan Open Innovation Prize, launched in 2018, recognizes initiatives with high pioneering spirit and originality that are expected to serve as role models for the future, with the aim of promoting open innovation.

By combining road image data acquired from drive recorders provided by MSI to local companies across Japan and the AI image analysis technology of UrbanX, a startup originating from the University of Tokyo, the Drive Recorder Road Manager automatically detects road damage points and supports road inspection and management operations in municipalities. It has been utilized in dozens of municipalities so far.
