Startup Profile: Sustainable Lab

Sustainable Lab (SusLab) provides Japan’s leading ESG data bank that uses AI technology to support sustainable development goals and investments. The company was founded in 2019, and has raised USD 1.3m to date, with a Series A expected for early 2023.

SusLab’s premise is that ESG data will be embedded into any type of transaction in the future, so what is required is a robust data infrastructure at the industry and individual enterprise level to support the the development of this kind of infrastructure.

Given the early stage of the ESG infrastructure, however, currently all parties involved experience a significant number of pain points, from data collection through data analysis & reported, across large companies as well as SMEs. A common theme is the lack of skilled people (natural, given the nascent industry), so appropriate tooling is essential to put the limited human resource to productive use.

TERRAST, SusLab’s first product, operates at the industry level and aims to be the one-stop solution for ESG research & investing.

This is supplemented by TERRAST for Enterprise, which — you guessed it!- operates at the level of an individual corporation.

Obviously, the two solutions are intended to work in tandem to create a complete ESG data ecosystem.

SusLab has gained significant traction in Japan and is now preparing for their next stage of growth, including international expansion.
