Tokyo ranks 20th in The Economist and NEC Digital Cities Index 2022, putting it 5th in Asia behind Beijing (3rd), Seoul (4th, tied with London), Singapore (8th) and Hong Kong (17th).

The ranking is done across four dimensions:

  • Connectivity (30 percent)
  • Services (28 percent)
  • Culture (21 percent)
  • Sustainability (21 percent)

An infographic, the whitepaper as well as the raw data are available from the DCI website for further analysis, and customized comparisons.

Benchmarking Tokyo against Copenhagen, the leader, shows gaps across all dimensions and sub-categories.
