Sumitomo Mitsui Card has introduced personal identification using the public personal authentication service of My Number cards in the V Point Pay app.

The public personal authentication service uses the electronic certificate stored in the IC chip of the My Number card to prevent fraud such as forgery of identification documents, impersonation by others, and data tampering, thereby realizing safe and reliable personal identification. With the introduction of this function, in addition to eliminating the need to take a facial photograph for identification, some application content such as name and address will not need to be entered, making the procedure smoother.

Operational flow using the public personal authentication service

(1) Select “My Number Card” on the identification screen
(2) Confirm identification procedure
(3) Confirm consent clauses regarding handling of personal information

(4) Enter password for signature electronic certificate
(5) Read My Number Card
(6) Confirm personal information and apply

To enable this functionality, Sumitomo Mitsui Card has adopted “Polarify Public Personal Authentication Service (JPKI)” provided by Polarify, and is considering expanding its introduction to personal identification operations at Sumitomo Mitsui Card in the future.

What is the “V Point Pay App”?

The V Point Pay app is a prepaid cashless payment service provided by Sumitomo Mitsui Card. When you charge the V points you’ve accumulated to the V Point Pay app, you can use them at Visa member stores worldwide, both in-store and online, with 1 point = 1 yen. Also, by opening and presenting the barcode of the mobile V card in the app, you can accumulate and use V points at V point partner stores throughout Japan.

What is the “Polarify Public Personal Authentication Service (JPKI)”?

The Polarify Public Personal Authentication Service (JPKI) provided by Polarify is a service that uses the electronic certificate stored in the IC chip of the My Number card to officially authenticate the user and confirm that electronic documents have not been tampered with for online administrative procedures and logins. It can be used not only for procedures at administrative agencies but also for online transactions with private businesses such as online banking.

Polarify was established by Sumitomo Mitsui Financial, NTT DATA, and Daon. As the first company to receive individual approval from the Financial Services Agency as a bank advancement company under the revised Banking Act, it provides eKYC services and biometric authentication services. By utilizing multiple biometric information, it contributes to building a secure and convenient digital society by seamlessly connecting users and businesses from eKYC for transaction initiation to login authentication for daily transactions.
