The United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) established an Advisory Group on Advanced Technologies in Trade and Logistic to advise and support the UNECE secretariat and UN/CEFACT on advanced technologies. These advanced technologies include Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) — the areas of most development in the international supply chain.

The first session of the Advanced Technology Advisory Group was held in Geneva on January 30, 2020. The purpose was to advise on advanced technologies (such as Blockchain and IoT) and discuss implementation challenges, such as regulatory obstacles. Also, the potential impact of these technologies on standards, services and everyday operations was also taken into consideration.

Josip Maričević, CTO of Tolar HashNET, participated as a panelist at the event, while Tadej Slapnik, Director of Tolar HashNET Slovenia, participated as member of the Advisory group.

The morning session centred around the need to register and identify technologies and trends that are changing international trade and logistics, as well as practical use-cases in the industry. The session also highlighted potential new technologies of relevance.

Josip Maričević participated as a speaker in morning session The role of technology in reimagining the future supply chains, where he introduced: The future of DLT and its applications in real-world scenarios. You can read more details about this session HERE.

At the afternoon session Advisory group members discussed recent work of UN/CEFACT in selected technology areas and their results. They also adopted Vision and Mission Statement of the Advisory Group and the Programme of Work to define the framework in which the Advisory Group will operate.
